Californian Redwoods

redwoods 4.png

Planted from 1936 as an experiment by Forests Commission Victoria, these Californian Redwoods (Sequoia Sempervirens) have ben thriving in the rich Otways soil and have now reached a towering height of over 60 metres, and growing. Now classified as a site of Biological and Cultural Significance, the Sequoias are distinctly different from the native rainforest that hugs the opposite bank of the Aire River. Taking a walk through this mighty tall plantation is a memorable experience of feeling dwarfed by the giant Sequoias, putting in perspective our size and our life.

Great stop-over, particularly if visiting nearby Hopetoun Falls and Beauchamp Falls, it’s an easy 15min, 500m walk that is certain to leave a lasting impression.
